Since the start of the pandemic, FareShare has cooked more than 2.5 million nutritious meals for hundreds of charities stretching from Adelaide to Mount Isa. The JobSeeker supplement has put long-called for extra dollars into the pocket of many of the most vulnerable Australians, but this week JobSeeker, along with JobKeeper, will be cut back. The Australian National University’s Centre for Social Research estimates that more than 740,000 Australians will be pushed into poverty, bringing the national tally to 1.8 million people. FareShare is collaborating with other food charities more than ever before to provide nutritious meals to as many people who fall on hard time as possible. A new team is filling the roles of our passionate volunteers and discovering the rewards of helping people in need.
With most of our Melbourne volunteers suspended through lockdown, FareShare has hired more than 100 staff funded by the Victorian Government to operate our kitchens, warehouses and gardens. For some, the experience has been life-changing. Meet Nav, Arnel and Reuben.
FareShare's annual fundraiser to boost local charities has grown into the national Feed Appeal helping hundreds of groups at the frontline support more vulnerable people across Australia. Read how the Appeal, co-founded by FareShare and News Corp, has had its biggest impact in 11 years thanks to a massive contribution from Woolworths and the Newman’s Own Foundation.
And importantly... FareShare has strengthened our team with three new senior appointments. Paul Conroy brings a wealth of experience to the role of Chief Operating Officer with a focus on investing in people, planning and processes to expand and enhance our operations. Toni Hetherington rejoins FareShare as Director of Corporate Partnerships and Media having been a volunteer Board member for nine years. Toni spent 25 years as a journalist and editor with News Corp, during which time she and Marcus started the Feed Appeal. Toni’s focus is to increase awareness of FareShare and the Feed Appeal across all media platforms. She is looking forward to working with our corporate partners and volunteers to highlight our impact together. FareShare is also pleased to welcome Matt Bailey onto our Board. Matt is a director of Healthy Generation, a developer of innovative brands and products for the healthy consumer.
