Monaghan Integrated Development works with Third Age to run the Failte Isteach project in County Monaghan. Fáilte Isteach is a community project involving volunteers welcoming migrants through free conversational English classes. What's Involved
Volunteer tutors with Fáilte Isteach teach conversational English during a 2 hour class, once a week, to a small group of migrant adult students. No prior teaching experience is required. If you can speak English fluently, have some time to spare and enjoy immersing yourself in new cultures while welcoming migrants into your community - you are fully qualified!
All volunteers will have the opportunity to benefit from training and support and are also supplied with Fáilte Isteach teaching materials. Classes are conversation-focused and aim to be non-judgemental and student-centred.
Volunteers of any age over 18 are welcome .
MAIN TASKS:
Attend training and learn from each other on how to deliver a conversational English class
Welcome students to the group, making them feel at ease
Host a conversation session with 2 or 3 people using the lesson plans and materials provided
Classes take place in Clones library between 11:00 and 1:00 on Thursdays.
What's required for this position
To tutor on the project you need to speak English and have a patient, friendly attitude and approach. Teaching qualifications, though welcome, are not necessary as training will be provided and classes are conversational. The following characteristics are helpful for this role:
