About Befriending Monaghan
Befriending Monaghan has been in operation since 2018 and is coordinated by Monaghan Volunteer Centre. In 2020 Monaghan Volunteer Centre also took over coordination of The Good Morning Call service and amalgamated it into the Befriending Monaghan service, offering either Befriending Visits or Befriending phone calls to clients who may be experiencing isolation and/or loneliness. Clients are matched with a volunteer who then visits or phones the client once per week, offering companionship and a friendly chat. All volunteers complete a screening and Garda vetting process and then complete Befriending training before they are matched with a client.
What's Involved
Befriending Monaghan is a befriending project for older people in Co. Monaghan. We are looking for volunteers to visit older people or people with disabilities who are living alone and keep them company for an hour or two each week.
Volunteers will be supported by the project coordinator and will receive training before they are matched with a client.
We expect the some of the older people will prefer daytime visits and others will prefer evening visits. We will match them with volunteers who are available at their preferred time.
Time Commitment:
About one hour per week.
